energy "payback" of PV's [RE-wrenches]

Thanks for the positive replies guys. I remember hearing somewhere the number of
terra watts that hit the earth every day, and accordingly how much land (was it
200 sq. miles?) it would take to operate the US from PV... of course that does
not include information on how to store it for night power, but I always thought
we could have a sustainable world powered by RE. These people seem pretty
pessimistic and want to poo-poo anything that might hold a solution to the very
real and very fast approaching energy brick wall we are heading at full
throttle.

Make no mistake, in the next 10 to 15 years the politics of energy will be
monumental, and the biggest thing on everyone's minds. We RE folks are
positioned to offer a solution, although I doubt even a Manhattan style project
on installing RE would be big enough and fast enough. There is a giant crunch a
commin folks. I would hope that someday our "leaders" might talk about this
rather than pretending it does not exist for as long as possible. It will take
real leaders and real guts to help people understand what is going on. Lest this
thread move into politics, I will shut up now.
