Hi,

I've just run into a problem with a Xantrex C35 charge controller, and I'd
like to know if anyone has experienced a similar problem. This problem
occurred with three different units, which would seem to point to the
installation, or something in the surrounding system, but I cannot find
anything. A call to Xantrex tech support yielded no useful information.

Anyhow, here’s the problem:

When I apply power from the battery to the controller it turns on normally,
and starts to regularly blink a single blink. When I turn on the array
charging current (about 13 amps @ 12 volts), the controller will charge for
2-10 minutes, and then will simply quit. No lights, no charge current, etc.
If I disconnect the controller for a few minutes, I can repeat this cycle
when I reconnect.

The controller is installed in a system running fans for a remote restroom.
Other loads on the system include a 120v sump pump running off a 2.5 KW
mod-sine inverter (controlled by a solenoid), and a few lights on a timer.
The only other piece of equipment in the system is an old meter, which is
measuring the voltage, array current, etc.

Oh, one more thing. Can anyone tell me what the difference is input vs.
output voltage should be on a C-series controller? I’m seeing a difference
of about .05 volts between the input from the PV, and the output to the
battery. Is that about right?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Best,

Louis Woofenden
