Hi y'All,

I just use standard self tapping stainless 1/4" Flange screws for
attaching feet to the purlins on a steel building. This is the
recommendation of Butler Buildings, the manufacturer. They provided all
the loading and wind calcs for the building department, with no
additional cost to the customer.

For some tile roof on 2x joist jobs, I have been using 1/2" Anchor
Bolts. available in both stainless and zinc plated steel. My roofer
supplied lead flashings for the anchor bolts. He caulked the anchor
bolt/ flashing joint by crimping the lead and caulking with urethane caulk.

For flat roofs that will take the load we are just doing a ballasted
system. Around here the code requires the system to resist 80 mph
winds, that translates to 10lbs / sqft of lift. KC panels are about 10
watts/sqft, so I ballast 1lb / watt. Concrete parking blocks are cheap
and heavy, they have holes for anchor bolts which can be epoxied in. For
a foam roof we add a pressure treated 2x12 under the parking blocks to
spread the load so as not to crush the foam. Be sure not to exceed the
16lbs / sqft live load allwoance for roofing. Your local structural
engineer can document this for you. I have a couple of crane companies
in the area that will swing stuff onto a roof for about $200/ job, don't
stack it too close together when loading the roof.
