How about an E-Meter with the lift lockout function set it to alarm at
whatever voltage?
That will do the job, it can be set to shutdown at a slightly higher voltage
after the charging is started.

Later,

Subject: Audible alarm for blind person [RE-wrenches]

Hello fellow wrenches,
I have a blind customer who needs to have an audible alarm to alert her of
low battery bank so she can start gen/set when batteries are low in winter
months. She lives alone, so nobody to help her monitor battery condition. I
will be able to check on her once a week or so, but what if the batteries go
dead in between my visits? Anyone able to help here? Any and all info
greatly
appreciated.......

SUNcerely,
