wind turbines / sea shore environment [RE-wrenches]

Greg,

One of my WT600 installations is about 20m from the sea and is holding up
well. As Hugh says, Provens are well protected. Electrically, the Stator is
encapsulated so no problems there, but it has slip rings so they will need
cleaning annually at least.

Watch out for very low temperatures though! If you are expecting strong
winds at much below freezing, you could have blade problems. The original
blades used the same material for the hinge as the rest of the blade and I
have collected them off the ground several hundred metres away from the
machines on occasion. However, Proven redesigned them with a polyurethane
hinge which is much more reliable and I think they now have some running on
subantarctic sites. I definitely recommend you check with Proven what their
current temperature spec is, and try to get a second opinion from someone
who has a cold site.

As small turbines go, I recommend the Proven machines as reliable workers.

Cheers
Charlie
