Travis,
We have set PV arrays up to 600 watts up to 110 feet high. We have set
larger arrays on lower poles. Oldest systems are 13 years old and have
withstood sustained winds over 100 mph (recorded at ground level). Contact
me by phone if you want details . Sunelco also has experience with tall pole
mounting.

Subject: High Voltage Charge Controller [RE-wrenches]
I am designing a job where the array is at least 700' from the house which
is in heavy woods and the customer doesn't want to cut any trees down.
Putting the inverters and batteries nearby to the array doesn't really solve
anything either since the system will be grid tied. That means I would need
to have an AC run from the house to the inverter location then back to the
house again. That's 1400' roundtrip.
What I would really like is a MPPT charge controller that would let me run
the array above 100 volts with 48 volts nominal output for the battery bank.
I have heard of several custom made units but have never seen any. Where
can I get such a thing?
Or maybe I need put the array on top of a 40' pole? Anybody done anything
like that?
Thanks
Travis Creswell
