AES MM500 [RE-wrenches]

Hi Rob,
The MM500 that had a 65 VAC output was delivered approximately three months
ago and failed immediately at initial start-up. The new control board
arrived about 15 days latter and it is now working like a charm (for the
last three days). Before the unit was repaired... it would run resistive
loads in stand alone mode at 65 VAC indefinitely, it did not shut down. We
never attempted to synchronize it with the grid.
The four AES 1000 watt inverters that are grid tie; have been working
flawlessly for over a year now. We are extremely happy with them. They are
part of a utility test program and are closely watched.
Cordially, John Mottl

John - we have seen a few inverters with controller problems that are now
resolved that had your symptoms. The root cause was the hand addition of a
diode to a surface mount cap - the heat or flux made the cap fail over time.
The good news is that the software catches the problem and nothing bad
happens.

This will not be a problem for any current-production units.

The 1000 watt inverters are working very reliably. We have had problems with
one mm5000 failing out of the box about a week ago. It was producing 65 VAC
RMS in stand alone and running resistive test loads at that voltage.

Kids:

I have tried several times to find info on the web regarding the AES MM500,
without luck. Anyone know the web address for this?

On a related subject, is anyone using the AES inverters? How are they
working out?
