I did.  Like I said, I may have misunderstood what was being presented, but
I thought it was heading towards: the NEC is irrelevant, we're free
spirits, don't mess with us.  Regardless of what was said, we cannot
compromise on safety.  Next in priority is reliability and next is
aesthetic appearance of our workmanship.  And it seems all three of these
points go together-- a code compliant, neat system is safer, more reliable
and pleasing to look at (and work on later).

This is not to say I agree blindly with everything in the NEC.  It has
mistakes that need to be corrected.
