I'm with Drake on this one. Batteries are not UL listed yet the 
interconnects for them have to be? What about roll-your-own bussbar? 
Nuts. It's politics or ignorance or both and should be changed. There 
is very little safety or fire issue here.
As to the price, the 4/0 Cobra is at least $1.00 per foot more than a 
good quality welding cable. If you figure two 10' inverter cables and 
probably another 20' or so for both series and parallel 
interconnects, that's $40.00 wholesale. You could say that's nickel 
and dime stuff when you view the overall cost of a system, but 
there's LOTS of that sort of thing going on in 690. PV is held to a 
higher standard than all other generation in the NEC. We are not 
going to get truly mainstream until we can off the sum total of all 
these over standard costs.
