SunFrost RF19 freezer performance [RE-wrenches]

Mark,

The RF19 freezer you describe below sounds like it has a problem.
Unless you've got ambient temperatures in the 90s and higher, the RF19
shouldn't have any big problem holding the freezer temp in the -10 to
+10F range. I'd contact Larry at Sun Frost...and be prepared to be
pushy. He doesn't easily admit there is ever *any* problem with his
fridges.
Good luck,
Doug Pratt

Subject: SunFrost RF19 freezer performance [RE-wrenches]

Has anyone had problems with the freezer compartment of a SunFrost RF19
getting cold enough? I have one that the customer has been unhappy
with from the start. Compressor running constantly, won't go much
below 20 degrees F. We did find out that it was low on freon and had
that fixed, but it still didn't behave as we expected. SunFrost
expects a 50% or better run time, but not 99%.

I did put an Omnimeter on it for a few weeks to log the power usage.
While they were on vacation it did come closer to the 50% runtime and
was able to get down to 10 degrees or a little less. Yes, the customer
opening the door is a factor, but supposedly only two family members
get into the freezer, and "not that much". He says its running all the
time now, but in cooler weather, while they were home, the compressor
would come on around noon and not shut off until the evening. The door
seal appears to seal correctly. The door feels cooler to the touch
than I would expect for the amount of insulation that should be in it.
I mentioned this to Sun Frost and they assured me that the insulation
couldn't be missing.

I have sold RF16s and never get a complaint. My customers, all Amish,
like their ice cream HARD. Consequently, they want the freezer to be
colder than most of us "English".

I guess what I'm looking for is for someone to say "yes, this model
does have a bit more trouble than the RF16 with keeping the freezer
cold enough." It's my understanding that the compressor is pretty much
at its limit for the size of this freezer.

A bit of rambling, but maybe it will spur some useful comments.
