Matt:

I see this more than you would think.  Many pv systems are sold on
east coast to people ordering systems they found on the internet from
dealers on west coast (where more pv dealers and distributors are
concentrated).  These dealers send a crew with the equipment which
they deliver on their own truck along with all their tools.

They are on site 2 days then leave, and if something is not right, the
homeowner has nobody to call for local service.  Not only are there
wiring problems, but you can guess what the inverter programming is
like.  The profit must be there or they would not do it, and since
there is no follow-up customer service or equipment repair issues to
factor in, they eat the gravy and leave people like us to clean up
after them.
