end battery failure? [RE-wrenches]

Hey Jay,
I'm pretty sure I know the answer before I even ask the question, but
the main battery cables are brought in at opposite ends of the battery,
right?

Hi all,

Here is another battery question.

48v battery, L-16's, 2 strings.  Batteries on good system, hydro all
winter, good
summer sun, pretty well maintained, desulfaters as well. 2 x 4048
inverters, 15kw
genset.

One both strings, the end batteries failed, while all the interior ones
are fine.

One comment ( clue), the owner likes to keep the batteries very high,
60v.  Now
this isn't a problem in the summer, but in hydro weather, this could
mean 60v for
days or even weeks at a time.?
