John,

There shouldn't be any excess liability for the system as long as its installed to code. It's no different than if the owner had a back-up generator on site or was taking electrical service from the utility at 480V and had high voltage distribution on the property. His/her regular commercial liability policy should be suffcient to protect the owner's interests and at worst, the policy would need to have a rider or endorsement specifically covering on-site power generation.

We've seen this red-herring too often although typically its used by the utility -- through onerous insurance requirements for much smaller RE systems than you're working with. Seems like its time for the well-groomed amongst us to don suits and start making presentations at our respective state insurance industry meetings to dispel the myths and educate the companies.

David

p.s. 25kW??!! Way cool!!!

As you know, with Sunny Boy's those arrays are operating at upwards of 350 VDC. We plastered the whole area with "Danger - High Voltage" signs and stickers, to hopefully prevent the clueless from zapping themselves.
