DC sub pumps [RE-wrenches]

Eric,

It would help to know what is wrong with the pump. If it is shorted out due
to diaphragm failure (leakage) then they need a new pump. They can continue
to use the same type of pump but pull it up and change the diaphragm prior
to 2 years next time. In this way they would still have a reasonably
economical pump that is very efficient. Or you could look into Kyocera's new
DC sub pumps to see how expensive they are versus Dankoffs sub pumps (both
of these should be more expensive than the Shurflo 9300. I have some 9300's
lasting 5 years between diaphragm failure and some like your customers at
less than 3 years. It depends on depth below the static water level and also
usage I think. Many of my customers do choose to go with AC sub pumps
especially since the advent of the Grundfos SQ series of pumps (variable
frequency for no startup surge).

Subject: DC sub pumps [RE-wrenches]

I recently was called by a client with a 2 year old Sureflow 9300
submersible pump. It is running on a 12 volt battery system.

The pump seemed to be OK at first. However, after it ran for about 5
minutes it tripped the breaker on the circuit would no longer operate -
presenting a dead short at the top of the well. I had to get back to
Vancouver so the client pulled the pump today and I haven't had a
chance to inspect it.

I'm debating talking the client into an inverter and AC pump or trying a
DC submersible again.

Any one else encounter this kind of failure?
I've stayed away from DC sub pumps in the past and this was my first and
only.
