Drake,

Yes, if you use the GFDI breaker as a disconnect then the system becomes
ungrounded when you disconnect the PV.  Here in the US, many of the code
guru's are convinced that the sky will fall, the earth will open up, and
plagues will destroy the country if a PV system ever becomes ungrounded.
Given the very serious repercussions of ungrounding the PV system, I
think you can see why the extra cost for the redundant breaker is
justified.   

The rest of the world is wrong on this one.  Here in the US we know
better.

Hello Wrenches,

The instructions for the Outback DC - GFP/2 (ground fault protection 
device) require circuit breakers on either side of the unit.  There is a

breaker to disconnect the array from the GFP/2, and another to isolate
the 
charge controller from the batteries.

I have heard that the DC - GFP/2 is a 60 A breaker besides being ground 
fault protection.   Is there any Code, Listing or technical reason why
we 
can't use the GFP/2 for the array disconnect switch, eliminating one
breaker?
