Air-X & noise levels [RE-wrenches]

Chris,

I nearly posted the same question here a few weeks ago but asked Southwest
instead. I asked them if it was possible to upgrade a 403 to AIR-X by
changing the controller. They said no, but that my customer might have
blades from a "bad" batch. Although the blade noise seemed "normal" to me, I
thought there was no harm in trying. They swiftly sent me a new set on free
warranty exchange (good service, I thought), which look the same to me and I
haven't been there to fit them yet.

My customer is a hard-of-hearing retired artillery Colonel, and the 403 with
original blades keeps even him awake on windy nights! He refuses to use the
stop switch though, because he likes his tank of hot water. It is a shame we
can't move the tower further away.

I still think they are good machines for the money and if anyone can confirm
that the new version is quieter, I'll be more keen to recommend them. I
still won't be using them for long-life reliability-critical jobs though.
Horses for courses....

Charlie
