SW compatibility [RE-wrenches]

Pals:

I have a client who has two SW inverters.  One is a new SW, probably type 2
and the other is an older, factory rebuilt Type 1.  The older one has been
at a repair depot twice for a fan that runs and won't stop.  While it has
been gone, the new one has had some firmware problems, generally having to
do with generator charging, resolved by a reset.  The new service manager,
by the name of Steve Higgins, says the two SWs are not compatible, i.e. not
stackable. Does anyone have experience with this?
