IBEW Versus Roofers [RE-wrenches]

Your best ally in combating the IBEW is your local roofers association. Make no mistake:
Electricians are not tested for competency for roofing work. Electricians do not carry workers compensation for working on roofs. Their workers comp rate carriers will double their rates when they find they are working on roofs.
Electricians are clueless about roofing work.
Electricians do not carry completed operations insurance for leaks causing damage to the home from their roofing work.
Your best ally against IBEW is your local roofing associations. Together with solar contractors you can keep IBEW's shoes grounded. When it comes to turf war your local professional roofing association will go toe to toe with solar contractors to keep electricians out of their trade. Once collectors are mounted on the roof and all the roof flashing is done then and only then should electricians be able to finish the job. Roofing work is in no way shape or form part of their scope of operation. The solar industry is a small group but when you combine your strength with roofing associations, professional licensing boards and construction industry boards will side with the roofers and the solar contractors in the homeowner's interest.
