Hi Folks,

My turn to be the resident skeptic.

1) Amazing new wind generators that will be ready in a few months are
dime a dozen. Wait until it's been on the market for a year, and
still remain skeptical.

2) I don't think rooftop mounting will ever be a good idea. Standard
rule of thumb is to site wind generators a _minimum_ of 30 feet above
anything within 500 feet to get out of turbulent zone and into best
winds.

3) The small wind industry seems to draw people who make outrageous
claims. This particular machine has been discussed recently on AWEA's
small wind list. Here are a few excerpts from Mike Klemen, a wind
nerd from North Dakota (I can forward his full message off list if
you want it):
---
Obviously, these claims are totally impossible. Even pushing
the 15 mph data through a Rayleigh distribution when accounting
for losses, this claim is unbelievable.

>self-governing and self-regulating; completely quiet; will
>last indefinitely;

Well, that does it. Completely quiet? Last indefinitely?
Those are the things the customer wants to hear...but
how true are they? $7000 installed? You can probably
produce this claimed energy with PV for that price and not
have to worry about maintenance!
----

Caveat windptor,

Ian
