Nicad Dendrites can be knocked out by high charge current for one or two
brief pulses. I use a 12 volt source limited to 10 to 15 amps and about
1/2 second manual pulse to each cell separately. Take proper precautions of
goggles just in case one is ready to blow, but that has never happened to
me. One or two such DC zaps restores it to condition to accept a normal
charge, the charge having been effectively removed by the dendrites prior to
"treatment". This is a funky temporary fix, but does work to varying
lengths of service, quite effective for at least one more job performance in
emergency.
