PG&E(Pennyless Gas & Electric) [RE-wrenches]

Ah! I've recently been down this road myself. Here's the scoop. New CA state law took effect on Jan. 1st this year.

(I have a full-text copy at my office if anyone wants me to fax them a copy. Email me at work: <doug at realgoods.com>, and gimme your fax
#.)

Basically the law sez, "any billing scheme available to you normally, has to also be available to you if you install a utility intertie
system." That means time of use, lifeline, and some other esoteric examples. The law gets very wordy and exceedingly specific, there's
no wiggle room here. I've been encouraging all the intertie folks I've been talking with to install TOU metering along with their PV
system. That means they can sell for 32 cents/kW at midday, and buy at 7 cents/kW in the evening (or something close to that, rates
vary).

The utilities were scrambling to come up with bi-directional TOU meters initially. THEY HAVE THEM NOW. Or at least PG&E does. And yes,
the utility must supply the meter. They can't charge the homeowner for it. If your local rep is saying they can't do that, or they don't
know how, tell them to look harder. They can, they do, and they are. And it's SUCH a sweet deal for folks with PV intertie systems!
