Large Parking lot Lighting [RE-wrenches]

Dear Holt,

Have you been given any specs on lighting levels
required ? If these lots are to be lit with solar
power one might assume that they are located away from
power and therefore possibly in an area with not a lot
of lighting competion. If they haven't given you any
lighting level specs and the last sentence is
applicable then the critical design considerations
would be: One, to use fully shieled fixtures that will
minimize veiling glare and maximize the value of the
light emitted. Two, to illuminate the lot to a low
lighting level of around .2 foot candles average,
(This is about 10 times brighter than the full moon,
but considered low level lighting in the lighting
business). Three, to use full spectrum lamps which
give far more acuity than low pressure or high
pressure sodium. Fourth, to try to achieve the best
uniformity you can. I have seen many solar lighting
jobs that use very poorly designed lighting fixtures
that extend the problem lighting that plagues all of
our cities and towns out into previously un polluted
rural areas. I am saddened t see solar used in this
way. Good luck with you jobs.

Yours, Peter Talmage
