Hi Chuck,

  I had a very similar customer a couple years ago. He was building one of
those "Napa Valley castles".  Liked the idea of solar electric (and the State
rebates), hated the look. We lucked out that he had a detached 4-car garage
with half the roof facing due south at a 4 in 12 pitch.  I offered to simply
cover the entire visible roof surface with flush-mounted black-framed
modules, and that was acceptable to him.  He ended up with about 7 kw of PV,
and was actually delighted a year later when he discovered that we'd sold him
two extra 120-watt modules that weren't connected to anything, just to fill
out the available roof space.  (I'd attach a picture, but that's still
forbidden.)

  A solar gazebo, walkway, or shade structure might be just the ticket for
your guy if no available buildings have south-facing roof area.
