It is wise to allow enough length and flexibility in the cable hang
for 100 twists to accumulate without stress. This is easy to do. I
know of a site where there will be approximately 300 twists per year,
and in that circumstance we have a problem. However I do believe
that the vast majority of sites will have no problem over a five year
period, and to be honest I don't think about it that much. But
mention it to someone from the USA and they spend the next week
devising ever more elaborate solutions to a problem with (for the
most part) does not exist.

It sounds as if sliprings should be fitted as standard in the USA if
only to end the discussion :-) But I personally would not buy them
if I could save 10% on wind turbine price. Or if they did not look
beefy enough for me. Corrosion, overheating, slack yaw bearings
causing damage, contamination with oil/grease, there is plenty to go
wrong along that road.
