Venting [RE-wrenches]

Lyn,

We have put in many successful passive vents in our
systems. The key is to ensure that the vent runs all
the way to the peak of the roof and that its top is
above the peak. A tee on top will keep most rain out
and a tee with a down pointing capped leg at the point
the pipe enters the battery enclosure will catch any
rain that gets in. For most runs we use a 3" pipe and
keep bends to a minimum and then 45 degree ones. Also
run the pipe in inside walls so it will stay warm and
you MUST insulate the pipe well if it goes through an
attic. If too much of the pipe gets too cold the air
flow will reverse.

Yours, Peter Talmage
