Attachments are discouraged at this point, not outlawed.

What say ye, gang? If a strong majority of you that respond to this message tell me that we should disallow attachments, then I will institute the rule. Please respond to me directly so that we do not clutter the list.

That said, for those of you that are considering attachments, please reconsider carefully. In this particular case, the only way someone had to communicate what they needed was via attachment, so I did not see a big problem with it. Another way this **could** have been handled would have been for Baran to have said, "I am having a problem with a battery going bad in a particular string configuration. Can anyone help me? I can send a graphic file of the problem. Please respond to me off line and I will send you the illustration."

Most attachments have of a "hey check this out" nature, and are not an important part of a request or discussion. There is NO place for that on this list.

If you HAVE to send an attachment, please make sure it is in a standard cross-platform format, like .gif or .jpg, and that it is saved at a low enough resolution that it does not take very long to download.

Remember, every time you attach a file, it ends up on the hard drive of 125 list members. (Some of whom are pretty clueless about email & attachments, and probably do not clean up their attachments folders often. And some of whom dislike receiving attachments.)

Sigh.
