It doesn't seem like there has been much response to the idea of using big lugs for finely
stranded wire. But, imagine just sticking the battery or inverter cable into a lug without
having to use rubber bands, tape or rings of insulation to hold all the little "hairs"
together. Just strip the wire and shove it in. It would be a time saver.

In many single phase service panels, there is a larger lug for the neutral than the phase
conductors. This may seem strange, as the neutrals are often smaller than the hot wires.
(I know there are oversized neutrals for heavy data processing loads, but we are talking
residential here).

The only reason I can figure for the oversized neutral lug is that "Service Entrance Cable"
(where still permitted) has a braided neutral wire that wraps around the phase conductors.
By the time it is unwrapped from the insulated conductors and twisted into a single,
stranded wire, it tends to be bulky and tedious to get into a lug sized for the wire.

I think the same logic should apply to any finely stranded wire. The lug should be
oversized sufficiently for easy installation.
