Just thought you guys ( gals?) would find this of interest in light of
what we have been discussing about license or certificate.
Just proves that a test of skills or competency are sometimes not worth
the paper it is printed on.
I have a customer who is building a million dollar monument to his own
stupidity. (Excuse me. His dream home)
I have been working with the subs and trades people. Two fully licensed
electricians. One is the son of an inspector.

I requested that they install a 1/1/2 " conduit during rough framing for
my array.

Today they inform me they forgot. General contractor requested it twice
and even he missed it.
Soooooo!
What do they do. They decide to put in an LB running into the main
panel. Grid intertie system after all.
Licensed genious gets his drill and begins to go through cellar wall. As
he gets through the wall he encounters resistance. Solution? Push
harder. Bang! All the subs tools go dead.
Cause? Genious drills through the back of the main service panel and
directly into the main breaker.
Thanks to double grounding of the drill he is still alive. At least
physically.

Why was he drilling into the wall and panel?
Well of course he needed to get the solar array input (DC remember) into
the main panel don't you know.
Says he sees no problem in combining 48 VDC and 220 VAC in same panel.
Same thing happened on another job. Different guys. Array conduit
terminated inside the AC sub panel.
They even had a drawing from me showing exactly what I needed.
Had these guy ever heard of NEC 690? NO?
Did they care? No.
License schmicense!!!!!

Can't test for stupidity.

Nuff said
