Long-distance monitor/control of 4024 [RE-wrenches]

We have a question for the expertise of the group:
We have an off-grid system, with the house about 175 foot wire run from the
power building. The customer would like a Remote Control for the SW4024,
and a meter (we were going to use a TriMetric 2020) in the house. Trace
says that's too long for the normal cable for the remote (we were going to
bury a cable and solder the connectors on each end), and the TriMetric
didn't work hooked up using wires in a 6-pair telephone direct burial cable
which is already buried. For the Trace remote, we have heard a little about
converting to serial, then using "short-haul modems", and reconverting, but
don't know the details as yet. Has anyone had any luck with using a longer
cable for the Trace, and/or has anyone come up with a working solution for
this kind of distance for either the remote or the TriMetric?
As usual, thanks in advance for any help with this.
