Wrenches,
Hearye, hearye to those of you who have installed grid-connected systems
using battery-based Trace SW inverters (2512, 4024, 4048, 5548). As you
will remember, the maximum amount of constant current that the these
inverters can handle is 60 amps AC. When you relocate 120 VAC circuits from
the existing breaker panel to the new critical load sub-panel, you install a
60 amp breaker in the existing panel which is the AC disconnect for the
inverter and new sub-panel, right? And the max constant current that the SW
can handle internally is also 60 amps, right? So, my question to all of you
is: what's your rule of thumb for how many amps worth of circuits (per SW
inverter) you put in the critical load sub-panel? Clearly, most would put
in more than 60, right? Consider the logic of main electrical service
wiring coming into a house. You have a typical 100 amp main service
disconnect breaker and yet on the breaker panel, you will find considerably
more than 100 amps' worth of circuits on each hot pole of that two pole
service bus bar. Going back to the solar example, I typically will put
90-120 amps worth of circuits per inverter into the new critical load
sub-panel with the understanding that you want to be able to provide your
customer with power in a number of places in the house BUT not max out the
inverter output if the grid goes down nor go beyond the 60 amp max when the
grid is on. What do you all do in such situations?
aloha from Hilo town,
marco
