SolarEdge provide me a tech note on generator integration. The link is at
end.

Here is my response to SolarEdge - looks like they're trying an outside the
Backup Interface Unit integration which might not be a big deal except the
BUI has generator lugs! My response:

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this tech note is horribly
underwhelming, impractical and I'm afraid a tacit admission that SolarEdge
cannot get its Generator integration properly designed and validated.

The BUI has dedicated lugs for generator integration which clearly means,
"plug the generator in here." But all the examples in this tech note have
the generator integrated with a separate 3rd party transfer switch off the
critical loads panel.

Customers and installers aren't looking (or expecting) manual integration to
the essential loads panel and necessary transfer switching; they are looking
for (and expecting) more sophisticated integration to ensure that
generators can provide seamless, no-man-in-loop generator charging of
battery and the loads when PV production is limited.

Look at the solutions in this note that require reprogramming. I highlighted
two. In neither highlighted case is it practical to reprogram a site for
"Net Zero Export" and "AC Grid charge" after the grid failure. In fact, in
normal operations this programming would most decidedly not be programmed
like this so to say that after the grid failure, the inverter would then be
reprogrammed to these alternate settings to gain capability is nearly
worthless.

So I come back to the BUI design with the generator lugs that clearly are
not used in any application of this tech note. Will anything be done to
provide capability through the BUI directly? We both know the generator lugs
were not included for no reason.

Please do pass this back to management."
