Probably will depend upon the carts voltage. Install an inverter on the cart and a genny socket – then with a regular genny cord and plug set, plug it into the house’s genny outlet.

 

And by the way, can we PLEASE stop using the work CRITICAL when referencing protected or backed up loads? This is absolutely incorrect and because the NEC has specific and strict language and requirements for critical loads, not what we do with PV and ESS!

 

Rant over – but I will continue to press this hot button topic as required!

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Golf Cart as temporary off-grid PV

 

Every now and then I get questions here in the land of hurricanes and golf courses about using golf carts as the battery bank for a permanently mounted grid-tie home PV system in a backup scenario. Does anyone have any ideas on a good way to do something like this? The battery would need to be able to be unplugged of course (not under load I hope!) It's mostly DIY'ers trying to cobble together a solution for a small critical load panel for their home. 

 

The idea is becoming more popular as people hear about using EVs for home backup. I'd like to get ahead of it and maybe even offer a solution that's safe, legal, and functional.
