[RE-wrenches] Trend away from roof flashings???

We use Quick Mount PV L-Mount but we're switching to IronRidge FlashVue
soon. I've seen too many non-flashed solar pool heating mounts work their
way loose to trust a mount without a flashing. While PV mounts are
different and arguably better, I still prefer a fully flashed method.

That said, I trust the EPDM and Butyl tape gaskets used on some metal roof
mounting products, mainly because the surface is different. It doesn't
compress the same way a shingle does and it's a clean flat surface.

On my own shingle roof I have installed several QuickBolts to secure some
steel cables that hold up courtyard lighting. I'm doing it as a bit of a
test because of the lateral stresses imposed on the bolt. Only time will
tell how it holds up. For now, I don't trust it enough to install it for a
paying client.
