[RE-wrenches] What would you do/say?

Gosh,  What could possibly go wrong?

I would offer my service to remove and replace this pile of.... and then 
discuss what they need a PV system to power with them filling out a load 
sheet, essentially start from scratch.  Provide an estimate (if you get 
that far), If they are not interested in going this route then game over.
