[RE-wrenches] Subject: PV shade structure

We are just finishing a PV structure on a 2nd floor patio.  It is not
purpose built for solar, but has engineering available.  It uses
something called Alumiwood, which is aluminum with a finish that makes
it look like painted wood.  This project used 4 23' 3x8 beams,
doubled, with a steel c-beam insert for each doubled span.  It had 7
pairs of 2x6 rafters.  The steel beams were heavy but the alumiwood
rafters surprisingly light.  3x3 Posts had steel inserts, then
sandwiched with 2x6 for visual treatment.

We found it from PatioKitsOnline.  We worked with Katie.  They send
engineering which encompasses all their variants, so it was a little
bit of guesswork for the assembly.  They do have online videos which
help to clarify.

We added short pieces of ProSolar 1.5" rail to mount the panels.
Could do the same with any of the other rail solutions.  Could mount
direct to the rafters and avoid the extra track - pluses and minuses
to each method.  You can see them in the picture before modules were
mounted.

Still figuring out how to waterproof it.

We have no snow-load to worry about, but PatioKits considers snow
load, as they sell into all areas of the country.
