[RE-wrenches] Metal roof/self taping screws

Jay,

I researched this years ago, so I have no specific figures for you such 
as pullout strength, only the general lesson that I learned. The pullout 
strength of Tek and similar self-tapping screws is surprisingly high, 
especially in the larger diameters, such as #14, which equates to 1/4" 
as I recall. As long as the purlin into which you're drilling and 
threading is of sufficient thickness to resist deforming and tearout 
(your 3/16" should be sufficient), the screw will not tear out under 
more-than-normal wind loading.

You should be able to find actual values via online research, as I did.
