Look at the recent Grundfos Scala2 recall, they have sold some really
bad pumps, so AC is not always best. For Offgrid a spare inverter is often
called for because critical systems do need back-up. Many
applications/requirements are different. Grundfos scala2 pump recall
They have been RECALLING or "updating" all VFD type PUMPS for 30+ years
now. It is all part of their planned obsolescence. The more electronics you
have in a PUMP system, the less likely water is to come out of a faucet
when opened, and the more it is going to cost you

Actually best of all: you don't have to run low voltage DC circuits to
the pump room. Another thing about the ECM drive pumps, they have much
higher flow rates available than the El Cids. And if you're worried about
your old school street cred in the off grid world, they are still
technically DC at the drive, for those old timers that insist on DC.
