[RE-wrenches] Bluetooth connection to Huawei inverter

Wrenches,
Have any of you tried to connect to a Huawei SUN2000-45KTL (or similar) with a smartphone via bluetooth? Using an iphone. 
They say it requires a bluetooth dongle (phone usb charging cord) which, in my mind isn’t “bluetooth” (which is wireless, isn’t it?)

Anyway, when I connect to the USB port the connection cycles on/off in what seems like a consistent cycle.... connected for 3 sec, disconnected for 5 sec ...and this continues. And no “device” shows up in their app. 

I even went and bought a new $25 charging cord, hoping that was the issue but it does the same thing. 

Their tech support seems willing and somewhat helpful but while other calls from site wrk fine talking to them is a terrible connection and then there is a bit of a language barrier as well.
