Bill--We enlarge knockouts often. The biggest watch out is if the knock out is close to the enclosure wall, it can be a hassle trying to fit the larger lock nut.It's a little harder trying to drill an offset hole with a step bit, but if there's room, we'll just make a new hole for the larger conduit to fit.

Regardless of the conduit type, you could also just pass through a j-box rather than splicing inside. The 3/4" KO should still be big enough for your #6 inverter output circuit.

            This particular install requires 6 Gauge for the AC output from a few SB7.7......-41 inverters (for voltage drop). Pretty tight for the 3/4" knock-outs in that inverter.  Any harm in using a step-drill to open it up to a 1" KO?  Any experiences with this?  I'm trying to avoid a J-box with a transition to 8 Gauge with 4-14 Polaris connectors.
