If you want to bring it up to 2017, you would need RS. It would be very 
expensive to retrofit this project to shut down within the 2017 boundary 
limits of one foot or less depending upon technology being used. If you 
are not changing anything on the roof, you won't be 2017 compliant.  I 
am pretty sure that you always had to have the dc conductors in metallic 
conduit within the structure. I also think you had to have an dc 
disconnect at the nearest accessible entry point within the building.  
To make the system reasonably safe and not 2017 compliant, I would add 
metallic conduit to the inside, and add a dc disconnect, external or 
internal, add a directory citing where the ac and dc disconnects are.  
This is definitely not going to make you 2017 compliant, but as was 
pointed out, this system is most likely grandfathered. Chris
