[RE-wrenches] Portable Power Centers

I would not go DC for starters.  I lived with a DC fridge for years and 
would not wish that on anyone in the 21st century. Regular Energy Star 
rated models are very close to the Sunfrost energy numbers, but are much 
cheaper, are readily available, and can be serviced by regular appliance 
repair folks.

On the module type/ price, we switch to much lower cost 60 cell modules 
at around 300 watts these days, and use an MPPT controller.  We're only 
using 12 v modules for very, very small systems.

As far as small power packages, we've always built are own. Goal Zero is 
more portable/ backpacking stuff;  I have a fold up 5 w Module from Goal 
zero that can charge a cell phone while camping. They're great for stuff 
like that, but they're going to be way out of the budget for a permanent 
mounted larger system.

Contact us offline, if you want, we could possibly help put together a 
low cost package system for this application.  Not many solar companies 
want to mess with sub Kw systems these days, but there certainly is a 
need, as you've found.
