I'm w/Michael and have little faith in existing Stirling tech. I had an extensive exchange w/STC about a year ago regarding a large scale Indian res. project. They actually conveyed concern over the economics until they can get up to much larger production levels. They now have some nice ft contracts and MAYBE it's ready, but keep in mind that fuel cells are selling too, how many of us have bilked a customer into one of those?! STC told me that major service intervals are every 40,000 hours and must be done by the factory (read:expensive!). Well, folks that's every 4.5 years - this is clearly not ready for prime time in my book or my customers pocketbook!
It was w/great interest that I read of the nasties in the mixed gases and my customer and I are both very concerned about pollution and treading lightly. I spoke w/the well driller who was clueless, then called an 'ol timer driller in the area. He went over it in great detail w/me and has been involved w/numerous applications. He gave me some clever home grown tests for volume, pressure and crude quality tests (flame color). After about a 1/2 hour on the phone he wraped up saying that he is installing his own PV system and asked if he could count on me for guidance, "A bargain and my pleasure", I said. I love these small communities most of us enjoy! The best advice yet is to enlist a geo-specialist if I determine there is enough to bother with. If it is there and will burn clean then we will likly use it. Leaking from the ground will cause more global warming then burning it as methane is 30 times more harmful then CO2.
I'll keep you all posted and REALLY appreciate the feedback and this braintrust we call the Wrenches!
