We recently did a gennie propane conversion with a kit from US Carburetion
(www.propane-generators.com).
It included a vacuum diaphragm safety switch. This was placed between the
battery and the propane solenoid shutoff valve. When the gennie was operating,
engine vacuum closed the diaphram switch to feed battery DC to the propane
valve. If the engine died or was shut down the switch opened, de-energizing the
propane valve solenoid. Pretty slick.
