Regarding the monitor heaters.

If you have a Monitor that uses Kerosene as opposed to propane they are
exceptional in fuel usage as well as using little power compared to most of
the other choices. 380 watts to ignite (takes 8 minutes) and 80 watts to
run. You can put it in efficiency mode that lets the temperature swing up 12
degrees before it shuts down. Mine rarely goes up on the higher burner
settings and is very efficient compared to the original forced air furnace
that was in the home. The furnace used to use 680 gallons fuel per winter,
the Monitor uses just over 275 gallons to run the winter.

The propane units do not have the efficiency advantage of the kerosene units
from what I understand.

If any one wants updated power figures I can put a Brand power meter on it
if you want me to.

In short, I recommend the Monitor heaters to many customers, they are
exceptional and will pay for themselves in a short time.
No problems with my unit after 6 years, and have heard of no others.

What do Monitors cost in other areas of the country?

I have been noticing some new portable vent less LP heaters lately.  I saw
one for less the a $100 @ my local propane dealers the other day.  I would
go check out the units they have and some times they even put them in for
free.

Has any one used the "Monitor" brand?  The main product they make is a
direct vent fuel oil space heater.  It has an excellent reputation but is
very expensive and still requires a little electricity.
