Paul,
  To add to the E-meter discussion,  if there is an interruption in the power 
to the emeter, it will reset to 100%.  Unless you run the battery down, then 
recharge to full battery parameters,  it will continue to relate 100% to the 
battery condition at the time of the power interruption.  The E-meter is 
sensitive to voltage drops below 10VDC so if you had a surge load, it could 
reset.  In my other letter I was referring to a 24v battery bank so with your 
12v system, you would want to get the voltage up to 15.5v to get a good 
equalize charge.  Is your system a grid intertied  inverter?  Can you adjust 
the charge voltage (as with a SW series inverter) If so, you could program 
the bulk and/or float voltage up to 15.5 for awhile to give it a good 
equalizing charge.  Make sure you monitor it and set it back later.
