Well, I too have a Fluke 87 story -- bad display after 5 years and free fix up (what's up with this bad display thing, sure seems to be a prevalent problem) -- but that's not why I'm writing.

That Radio Shack DMM with the data port works good (see HP 79 pg 16) but keep in mind that it does not do true RMS. They did have another meter, though, that did not seem as durable and has no data port but is true RMS and ballpark the same price.
