Smell in Low Keep freezer [RE-wrenches]

I am Dan's largest "small" dealer, servicing the Amish
of Indiana.

I sold an 8 cuft Tropical a couple of years ago that
the customer has given up on using.  It even flavors
the ice.

Dan told me it was a bad batch of the material that he
uses for the lining.  I suspect your freezer is from
the same time period.  I sold several of his units in
previous years, and none of them had an odor problem.
These all had the stainless steel liners.  He switched
materials to make assembly easier, as well as cheaper.
 The smelly plastic bit him though.

He supposedly was working on a solution for units
already in customers' hands.  This has been well over
a year ago.  He was supposed to come down and put a
stainless steel liner in the one I sold, but it hasn't
happened.

He told me that he could build the units with a
stainless steel liner for about $100 more.  This would
greatly reduce (if not eliminate) the smell problem,
and also make the liner more durable.  The smelly unit
I sold also has the problem of the liner coming loose
and flopping inward on one long side.

The latest suggestion he gave me was to put it outside
in the sun and fresh air, and to wash it out with
backing soda water.
