We have both a Dish Network small dish and an old Echostar "BUD" (big ugly
dish).  Both work just fine on a 4024 and both can be safely disconnected
from power without losing their "memories".  The only hassle with the Dish
TV is that it will need to reconnect itself to the satellite and get its ID
number verified in the downlink before it will display any images.  This can
take a couple of minutes at most but has never been a problem for me.  I
have called DirecTV and they told me their unit works the same.  We keep
ours plugged into switched outlets so they are totally powered down when not
in use.

Since all satellite TV systems rely on finding their particular ID number in
the embedded data stream to confirm that they are allowed access and that ID
number has associated with it the permissions that say which channels are
allowed there is not much information that is actually stored in the unit.
The information that is there gets kept in an EEPROM that doesn't require
power to retain its settings.
