KWH Meters [RE-wrenches]

Kurt,

At my last house which was grid only (no inverter, no solar PV, but SDHW) I
had the utility come out and check my meter.  They tested it at high load
and low load and it tested to over 99% and the in-accuracy was in my favor. 
It was a standard meter that you see at most any residence.  Around here the
utilities are required to annually check a % of their meters but I don't
know the accuracy requirements but one would guess they would be right on. 
If your profits are based counting kWh's it's in your favor to be very
accurate.

In my non-solar life I've changed out a few hundred 60 amp services but I
have found only a few that only measured kwh on one leg.  People loose
lights in half of the house and call me.  I get there and find the neutral
is still bonded to ground and the meter isn't turning but plenty of loads
are on.  Of course, the meter is screwed up so I call the utility and they
come put a new meter in and everything is fine.  The only meters I have ever
seen that weren't working just like they were supposed to required immediate
attention.
