Freezer in freezing conditions [RE-wrenches]

Refrigeration and freezers are less efficient in extreme temps because the
amount of refrigerant is optimized for room temperature, but then they have
less work to do so energy use is very low. There have been some comments
concerned about lubrication at low temps, but many solar home people place
freezers in unheated areas to save winter energy and I hear no problems.
